The stage was set for an electrifying day of the VEX robotics competition! Bright and early on Saturday morning, Teams 359B, 3590A, and 3590B arrived at Waialua High School, ready to take on the challenge. The teams were focused and organized, quickly setting up their pits and diligently fine-tuning their robots. With all three robots passing inspection, the teams wasted no time, diving into the action and partnering up for the qualification matches. The anticipation in the air was palpable, and the buzz of excitement only intensified as the day got underway. It was clear that the teams were fired up and eager to showcase their skills and creativity in the arena!

Dynamic Team Collaborations

Throughout the competition, we forged numerous new friendships and cherished the opportunity to rekindle connections with our fellow VEX enthusiasts. Engaging with other VEX teams, like the Mililani Mechs, was a highlight of the competition. Team 96789’s expertise in robot design provided an enriching opportunity to exchange ideas, explore new approaches, and gain valuable insights. Our conversations with the Mililani Mechs fostered a deeper understanding of the design process and inspired us to pursue more innovative designs. Their open-mindedness and willingness to share their experiences and expertise created a dynamic exchange of knowledge that not only broadened our perspectives but also strengthened the sense of community and camaraderie that defines the VEX community. This memorable interaction left a lasting impression, underscoring the value of collaboration and teamwork, and fostering lasting connections between our teams.

Tournament Results and Celebrations

High school Team 359B secured 3rd place with a 7-1-0 record. Middle school Teams 3590A and 3590B finished 5th (6-2-0) and 14th (3-5-0) respectively. Team 3590B got to the round of 16, Team 3590A reached the quarterfinals, and team 359B won the tournament with their alliance partners 96789Z, the Mililani Mechs. To top it all off, Team 359B earned the prestigious Think Award for their innovative programming, solidifying their status as a force to be reckoned with. The 2023 Waianae High School #1 VEX tournament was a true showcase of teamwork, grit, and ingenuity, and all teams deserve a hearty round of applause for their impressive achievements!

Intense Matches

At the thrilling North Shore Tournament, an incredible 24 teams gathered from all corners of the state, ready to test their mettle in a day-long showcase of fierce competition and collaborative spirit. The air was thick with anticipation as robots whizzed across the arena, vying for valuable points in a fast-paced game of strategy and skill. As the day progressed, Qualification Match 20 saw Teams 359B and 3590A teaming up in a stunning display of teamwork and precision. Through effective communication and expert execution of their game plan, they emerged victorious, achieving a mind-blowing score of 170 points — the highest of the tournament! Their triumph was a true testament to the power of cooperation, showcasing the limitless possibilities that arise when talented individuals join forces and work towards a common goal.

Alliance Selection and Strategic Planning

The Qualification matches drew to a close, paving the way for the highly anticipated alliance selections. In an exciting turn of events, Team 96789Z extended an invitation to 359B, forming the top-seeded alliance of the tournament. Meanwhile, Team 3590A joined forces with 4142A, commanding the 4th seed alliance, and Team 3590B took on the role of Alliance Captains, partnering with 2467J. The alliances came together, sharing strategies, discussing capabilities, and honing their game plans in anticipation of the intense battles that lay ahead. With determination, focus, and unparalleled teamwork, each alliance set its sights on emerging victorious, ready to put their skills and ingenuity to the ultimate test!
