STEM-Based Outreach

STEM-BASED DEMONSTRATIONS

Throughout the year, our students participate in multiple demonstrations around the island. The team displays several different robotics programs at each location, along with previous games and current competing robots. At each presentation games pieces are brought along, and the viewers/audience are given the opportunity of driving a competition robot. With these demonstrations, our team brings awareness of who we are and how we enforce STEM.

Service projects

Our team is involved in many annual service projects throughout our community and state. Each year our students and mentors volunteer at non-school related events to give back to those who support our program by being generous sponsors. At these events we help to set up, take down, serve/make food, and overall help wherever we can.

Host Tournaments

Spreading the mission of FIRST Robotics is one of the various core values our team holds as our mission. Given the opportunity to host several tournaments throughout the VEX and VEX IQ season, our team is able to achieve this with the support of our future STEM leaders and innovators.

workshops

Our team hosts annual workshops allowing other FIRST teams from different countries to tour our facilities while gaining hands-on experiences with the various equipment. These workshops also include PowerPoint presentations from leadership roles within the team to maintaining a sustainable program. Teams from around the world like China and Japan have taken the plane ride to visit The Hawaiian Kids on the North Shore of O’ahu.

Program Tours

Every quarter we do program tours for interested businesses, the community, as part of 6th grade orientation on program offerings in our school, and an annual Robotics Open House tour at the end of build season.  We also do program tours for interested groups upon request.  Recent guests include hosting 60 administrators in Central District, new major sponsors, and business partners we work with.

Special Projects

Our program has gained the wealth of knowledge and resources over the past 24 years. Our students apply many of the different techniques they learn to expand “beyond the robots” and make a difference in our community through these projects. These  include catalytic converter shields, spam slicers, PPE products, etc.,  which benefit a variety of industries.
