In week 6 of competitions, our team had the opportunity to participate at the Hawaii Regional as our fourth this season! We had the chance to compete alongside 34 excellent teams from Japan, the Netherlands, and the US. We had the opportunity to see many of our friends worldwide!
Qualification Matches
Starting on Day 2, we quickly began qualification matches in the 3rd match of the day. Teams worked together to score game pieces and boost their rank on the leaderboard. Qualification matches lasted until match 50, where we competed in 9 qualification matches on day 2 and 3 more on day 3. During the tournament, we worked with teams like Team 9494 and Hanabi, a rookie team that needed help with wiring and bumper sizes. Our team worked with 3008 and 9494 to develop solutions to help get their robot running! After qualification matches, we ended with a score of 11-1-0 (Win-Lose-Tie), in first place.
heading into playoffs
Our alliance worked hard to win each match and continue through the playoffs all the way to the final matches against the second-seed alliance. We brought all our teams together to strategize, prepare our robots, and work together to find the best way to succeed against the second alliance. In a best of 3, we took the first match with a score of 121 to 75, ahead by 46 points. Finally, we won the tournament’s last game with a score of 107 to 77, ahead by 30 points. We were crowned the regional winners alongside our alliance teammates!
beginning practice day
On the tournament’s first day, our students began by inspecting the robot. Once the robot was ready, we headed over to participate in practice matches, where we quickly faced challenges against other teams. We worked to get as much practice as possible, queuing as a substitution bot for matches. Our scouts were also hard at work, watching each game to find robots with first-rate traits. By the end of the day, students were ready for the next day, full of difficult matches and scouting robots!
forming alliances
Once qualification matches concluded, each team sent a representative to begin alliance selection. With the help of our scouts, students worked together to compile data to decide which teams we wanted to invite to our alliance. As the first-ranked team, we began alliance selection by inviting Team 368: Team Kika Mana to create the first seed alliance. We then invited Team 2348: Mechahunes to complete our alliance. Unfortunately, before the playoff matches, our 3rd alliance partner had trouble with their swerve drive, so we decided to bring in Team 8790: Departure, an international team from Tainan City. We could work with 8790 in Chinese and English when adjusting their robot for playoffs.
As we progress, we are excited to attend the World Championship alongside many excellent teams worldwide! This has been an incredible season, and we can’t wait to continue playing and learning from different teams and students next week. We are working relentlessly to improve our robot before shipping and practice our Impact Presentation in preparation for the big event.We look forward to hearing other teams’ stories and presentations.
