NS Chamber of Commerce Event

On July 4th, 2022, Team 359 was invited to North Shores’ first Car Show and Festival at Haleiwa Beach Park to demonstrate our VEX EDR and FRC program to people attending the event! The North Shore Chamber of Commerce hosted the event, including a car display, music entertainment, hula, over 40 food vendors, and more! Ending the evening with a fireworks display to celebrate the 4th of July! We were invited to give people the opportunity to drive our EDR robot and see how our FRC robot shoots cargo into a basketball hoop with help from our students. Our program participated in this event to show our community what our hard work and determination have been able to accomplish and encourage more people in our community to participate in STEM-related activities! We hope to inspire the younger generation to become more involved with robotics and STEM-related programs to increase STEM leaders in our community and worldwide! Seeing so many people in our community interested in our robot and program shows that robotics is an essential part of our students’ journey through middle and high school because they receive exposure to tools and new technology that can help students pursue their interests further in the future!

2022 AFCEA Mid-America Cyberspace Conference

On April 12, 2022, Team 359 was given the opportunity to showcase our FIRST and VEX Robotics Competition Robots, as well as demonstrate our entrepreneurship special projects as part of our STEM Learning Center, i.e. our Catalytic Converter Shields project and 2 Robots with the fields to demonstrate each of the 2 robotics programs! The students explained that robotics is more than just building a robot, it is all the facets of STEM. Along with showcasing our own Robotics program, students were given the opportunity to walk around the venue and network with companies attending the event to further possibilities in STEM after high school. AFCEA TechNet is the largest event in the Indo Pacific Rim focusing on regional defense issues and involves participants from military, government, industry, and academia. We are so glad to be attending the event and showing how robotics isn’t just about robots and giving our students the opportunity to see new upcoming technology and how it can help pursue our students interests further within the future.

Made in Hawaii Festival

From November 11 to 14, 2022, Team 359 participated in the Made in Hawaii Festival (MIHF), a 4-day event held at the Ala Moana Center. The Made in Hawaii Festival has served as Hawaii’s premier event exclusively showcasing “Made in Hawaii” products, with vendors selling/displaying locally-made goods, including art, clothing, jewelry, food, and so much more! Team 359 sold stickers, magnets, tumblers, frames, pictures, shirts, and many more items during the event. Our program participated in this event not only to raise funds for our program but to showcase that robotics is more than simply building robots. We want to showcase some of the many items that our program also produces. These items include catalytic converter shields, shirts, and stickers. During the event, our program was able to observe the most popular items being sold. Products ranged from holiday gifts to basic household items, allowing us to begin thinking of other items that our program could potentially create for people around the state and even the world!

McDonald's Week

Our team takes part in the Friends of Hawaii Robotics McDonalds McMuffin fundraiser. With each egg McMuffin sold, $1 is donated towards a Hawaii robotics team. Team 359 assisted with this fundraiser, visiting our local Mcdonald’s in Haleiwa to promote the egg McMuffin, encouraging each customer to purchase and help donate to all teams throughout the islands. Students represent several programs, from FRC to VEX and VEX IQ. Customers ordering food are also given the opportunity to try out driving a robot. The fundraiser opportunity is a great way to expose our community to FIRST robotics and STEM while simultaneously allowing the team to engage with the community.

Waialua Robotics Annual Community Fundraiser Event

Our team annually goes to the Dole Plantation to host our end of the year, Dole Luau. At this event, we display and demonstrate our robot for the keiki and community. The event allows us to show not only Waialua how STEM evolved over the years, but all of Hawaii.

2021 AFCEA TechNet Conference

At the AFCEA TechNet Conference in Waikiki, a few of our Waialua Robotics VEX and FRC students demonstrated their FRC, VEX and VEX IQ robots. The students explained that robotics is more than just building a robot, it is all the facets of STEM. AFCEA TechNet is the largest event in the Indo Pacific Rim focusing on regional defense issues and involves participants from military, government, industry, and academia. Since we cannot attend the event this year due to COVID, our team is submitting a video that speaks about our different sub-teams and team sustainability.

2021 AFCEA TechNet Indo-Pacific Virtual Conference

This year the AFCEA TechNet Indo-Pacific Conference is held virtually. This event will occur from March 1st-2nd, 2021. We created a video overviewing our program that will be shown at the event.
