I-BUILDING
Machine Shop
As the main facility of our robotics program, the Machine Shop provides our students with top-of-the-line equipment allowing them to in-house manufacture mechanisms and products year round. Our students utilize the equipment in our shop to prepare for off-season events and to help manufacture Special Projects for community members and businesses. Since we live in a rural area on the island of Oahu, transportation and access to materials and machines can be restrictive, so as a team, we are grateful for how far we have come. Guided by mentors, our students learn how to operate various machines such as Waterjet, Mill, CNC Mill, Lathe, Drill press, Hydraulic Press, Vertical Bandsaw, Bandsaw, Bender, and Grinder.
CAD Work Center
Better known as the Machine Shop Classroom, this center houses nine workstations where students and mentors CAD (Computer Aided Design) prototypes, robot parts, and many other projects. This blueprint is then passed on to our student machinists to bring the product to life using various materials and equipment.
Tools & Parts Storage Center
Located in the corner of our machine shop is Team 359’s tool storage center. You can find many cabinets and drawers with different tools and robot accessories here. For example, we have designated cabinets that store our wheels, pneumatics, motors, and screws. In addition, we ensure that we have many different sizes of nuts, bolts, and washers that can come in handy, especially during the Build Season.
Stock Room
This room is very special in the Waialua Robotics Program; it was the first shop dedicated to Robotics! Following the program’s expansion over the 22 years, it is now our supply room for all sorts of materials. Located near the machine shop, the supply room becomes handy, allowing us to store a variety of stockpiles. Our most common types of materials that our robotics team uses include angled aluminum, box tubing, sheet metal, aluminum rods, poly-carbonate, etc.
