VRC PEARL CITY HIGH SCHOOL


OCTOBER 2023

All three VEX teams arrived at Pearl City High School on October 21st, bright, fresh, and ready to compete! They kick-started their day with inspections to ensure their robots were battle-ready. Smooth inspections as usual led to strategic discussions for the upcoming qualification matches!



HAWAIIAN KIDS COLLABORATIONS

As the day went on, Team 3590A realized that they had some programming issues. Luckily, Masyn from Team 359B was ready to help! He helped them fix their program, giving valuable pointers and suggestions on how to their match strategy for future events. Our teams collaborated much more with their partners for qualification matches. They discussed strategies, autonomous, and how to ensure they would win the match. 



COMPETITION RECAP

By the end of qualification matches, Team 359B ranked 1st out of 24 teams. During Alliance Selections, they invited Team 2459D: Golden Hawks Robotics to join them as the 1st Seeded Alliance. As the 4th ranked team, Team 3590A joined forces with 6th ranked Team 3590B as the 4th Seeded Alliance. It was a 359 takeover!. {Insert sentence that talks about how they competed well and did their very best} The 1st Alliance (Teams 359B and 2459D) and 4th Alliance (Teams 3590A and 3590B)  faced each other off in the Semifinal round. Their competitive spirit shone through in the semifinal round, where both alliances faced off, with the 1st Seeded Alliance emerging victorious. Team 359B and their Alliance Partners advanced to the Finals and ended the day as Tournament Finalists!



MATCH DAY EXCITEMENT

This year at the Pearl City High School Tournament, a total of 24 teams from across the state collaborated and competed for an entire day! people scurrying around, doing skills and match games. Alliance partners engaged in spirited discussions and collaboration to fine-tune their match strategies, ensuring they were at the top of their game. The day was filled with thrilling matches, with everyone eagerly anticipating the skills matches that they had earnestly prepared for. Every moment in between matches was precious, with teams utilizing every spare minute to queue up for skill challenges.



ALLIANCE SELECTIONS

At the end of the day, the two middle school teams made it into the semifinals match. Teams 3590A with a record of 6-1-0 (Win-Lose-Tie), and Team 3590B with a record of 5-2-0. This tournament, two of our teams won awards! Team 3590B won the Judges Award for their amazing interview, and Team 359B won the Skills Champion Award! All teams did amazing this tournament, and they are so excited for the next! Team 359B placed 2nd for autonomous skills, and 20th overall in the world!



LOOKING AHEAD

We are beyond grateful to have had the privilege of competing at the Pearl City High School tournament. Teams 3590A, 359B, and 3590B will continue to push forward and break the bounds of robotics, taking this tournament to learn and improve on their game strategy and robot design. We are so grateful to our mentors, whose direction keeps us afloat during our hardest times and encourages us during our best.
