VRC JR. SEARIDER #1

SEPTEMBER 2023

On September 9, Teams 359B and 3590A competed at the Jr. Searider Vex Robotics tournament hosted at Waianae Intermediate School.

MATCHES

During Qualifying matches, Team 3590A paired with Team 2459B Golden Hawks. Students discussed optimal game strategies for the upcoming match. Team 245B would shot Triballs across the field, while Team 3590A would push them inside the goal. With the help of Team 2459B, 3590A was able to win their first match of the tournament!

RESULTS

The Hawaiian Kids enjoyed meeting and working with teams from across the State! For many students, Jr. Searider was their first experience at a VEX Tournament. Teams 359B and 3590A had a blast communicating and strategizing with other teams, forging new friendships and opportunities for collaboration!

PREPARATION

Over the summer, high school Team 359B and middle school Team 3590A designed, built, and programmed their robots to compete in this year’s VEX Challenge, Over Under. They developed essential proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD), manufacturing, programming, and documentation as they experienced the Engineering Design Process. Each student did their part to complete their robot in time for their first competition. Our VEX teams are ready and excited to compete this Season!

TEAM-TO-TEAM COLLABORATIONS

With 20 teams competing in this tournament, each team participated in 6 qualification matches. After qualifications, Team 359B ranked 13th, and Team 3590A followed closely behind at 14th place. Team 359B and 3590A both ended with scores of 3-4-0 (Win-Lose-Tie). During Alliance Selections, Team 359B joined Team 4142B, Pearl City High School, as the 6th Seeded Alliance. Meanwhile, Team 3590A joined Team 2459A,  Golden Hawks Robotics, as the 5th Seeded Alliance. Unfortunately, Team 359B was eliminated in the quarterfinals and Team 3590A was eliminated in the semifinals.

CONCLUSION

Teams 359B and 3590A are thrilled and grateful to have  opportunity to compete at Jr. Searider! We faced many challenges, but our students are determined to transform them into stepping stones towards improving robot designs, match strategies, and team-to-team communications. Thank you to our wonderful mentors for guiding us through this exciting process! We are looking forward to competing again soon at the Waianae High School Tournament! Imua Waialua!
