VRC HIGH SCHOOL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
APRIL 2023
From April 25-27, our VEX High School Team 359B had the honor of competing at the 2023 High School VEX Robotics World Championship hosted in Dallas, Texas.
SKILLS
Ready to take on the skills field, The Hawaiian Kids completed their 3 attempts on driver and programming autonomous. After all attempts, the team was ranked 176 in the world against 416 other teams! With a driving score of 105 and an auto score of 54, the Hawaiian Kids’ total high score was 159 points.
QUALIFICATION MATCHES
359B participated in the Research division against nine other divisions surrounding the Hawaiian Kids with thousands of inspiring teams and people who share common interests and a love for STEM. As the competition went on, the team got countless opportunities to talk to many of these teams, learning and collaborating, and expanding their knowledge of the STEM world.
TEXAS BOUND
Arriving safely in Dallas, the team was competition ready! Students began to set up the pit and familiarize themselves with the venue. Team 359B was assigned their division and got their match schedule. Once students passed inspection, They set out for the practice field to run diagnostics and test the robot for any damage inflicted. Scouts dispersed accordingly to discuss strategies with upcoming teams and to record matches taking note of robot designs, team strategies, and driver skills. The Hawaiian Kids familiarize themselves with the venue by locating their match divisions and skills fields.
THE RESEARCH DIVISION
The Hawaiian Kids completed in 10 qualification matches, paired up randomly with different teams in their division. Through our pairings, the team met many outstanding teams, such as team 4478, and the Rawr Vex Dees, who helped us succeed 170 to 111 with collaboration and hard work. Through the Highs and lows of the qualification rounds, Team 359B ended up ranking 55th in their division with a record of 3-7-0 (Win-Lose-Tie). Out of a total of 80 other teams, The Hawaiian Kids burst with pride to have made it this far in the season, and even though the team did not get selected to participate in the upcoming playoff matches, it was the experience that mattered.
END OF SEASON ALOHA
For our seniors, this competition was their last in VEX, and they are so proud to have finished the year strong. And for others, the world championship served as an opportunity to travel and meet a variety of teams all over the world to expand their horizons of the STEM community! And with that, the 2022-2023 VEX High School Season ends. Mahalos to our sponsors, families, and friends for their continuous support throughout the season! We couldn’t have done it without you!
