VRC WEST OAHU
DECEMBER 2022
On December 9th, VEX VRC Teams 359B, 359C, 3590A, and 3590B competed at the West Oahu Robotics Competition at Nanakuli High and Intermediate in Waianae, Hawaii!
PUSHING THROUGH
25 competed, including our own teams who already knew many of the teams attending. Students came prepared and once the match schedule was released, students quickly found their qualification partners to talk strategy! Coming in 4th place was Team 3590A with a record of 5-1-0 (Win-Lose-Tie) only losing one match against their fellow Hawaiian Kid Team 359C. Team 359B ranked 5th with a record of 4-2-0. Team 359C ranked 13th with a record of 3-3-0, and finally Team 3590B ranked 15th with a record of 3-3-0. Ending qualifications with alliance selection soon to begin!
FINALS!
Alliance selection began with students speaking with one another about possible alliances. Team 3590A aligned with Team 359C, their fellow Hawaiian Kids. Team 359B aligned with Team 96789Z, Mililani Mechs. Finally Team 3590B aligned with Team 1973A, Mililani HS Trojanbots. Once alliances were formed, teams went back to their pits to discuss strategies with their alliances. The playoffs began and had 8 teams facing off against each other, where team 3590B lost and were eliminated from the competition.
LOAD IN
Students woke up early to drive to Nanakuli High School for the 2022 West Oahu VEX VRC Competition. Once students made it to the venue, they set up their robots and supplies before heading off to the practice fields and testing their robots before heading off to inspection and passing expectations early on!
ALLIANCE SELECTIONS
Once playoffs had completed, the remaining teams faced off in the quarterfinals with Team 3590A and 359C being disqualified in their quarterfinals match, unfortunately eliminating them from the competition leaving only Team 359B and Team 96789Z continuing onto the semifinals. The alliance easily won their semifinal match and brought them into the finals against Teams 42700X and 42700A, The Crusaders from St. Louis, an opponent they know all too well! It was a tough match but each student did not back down, and with a score of 115 to 169 The Hawaiian Kids and Mililani Mechs won their match by 54 points! Crowing them the tournament champions of the 2022 West Oahu VEX Robotics Competition!
END!
Along with Team 359B winning as Tournament Champions, they also received the Excellence Award for the incredible work on their robot, program, and documentation process! We will be sure to continue working hard as students will soon be hosting and competing at the 2022 VRC North Shore Tournament. We hope to see our fellow Hawaii VRC Teams there!
