CANADIAN PACIFIC REGIONAL
FEBRURARY - MARCH 2023
The Hawaiian Kids got off to a great start to the competition season with a win at the Canadian Pacific Regional, which took place from February 28th-March 3rd!
SPREADING ALOHA
During the tournament, Team 359 was offered an amazing opportunity to spread our aloha by helping a fellow FRC team in need. Rookie team 8338, Boucherie Bears Robotics, reached out to The Hawaiian Kids for help in hopes that we could save their tournament! Their robot was disassembled and the team’s flight was delayed. Only two business students had arrived at the venue desperate for help. Our team provided assistance to get their robot inspected and ready for competition! For this display of aloha, our team was awarded the Gracious Professionalism Award.
ALLIANCE SELECTION
Pushing through the competition, our team competed alongside 36 other teams. After our 12 Qualification matches, The Hawaiian Kids ranked 2nd with a record of 11-1-0 (Win-Lose-Tie). Our team had many close matches and even lost one of our qualifications. This dropped our team down to 2nd place moving 4613, Barker Redbacks, into first place. Once qualification matches ended, students quickly prepared for alliance selection and spoke to teams in hopes of creating the strongest alliance!
PRACTICE DAY
Upon arrival to the competition, students began load-in by setting up our team pit. Meanwhile, our scouters visited other pits to interview teams for potential alliances and discuss strategies for qualification matches.
PERSERVERANCE
Upon ending qualification matches, our scouters then began analyzing their data from every match. Scouters then completed a list of rankings for all of the teams for possible alliances. The Hawaiian Kids decided to align with teams 4613, Barker Redbacks, and 244, RobotDawgs 3D, for the upcoming playoff matches. After Alliance Selections, teams gathered with their alliance partners and prepared for playoffs.
DEAN’S LIST
Apart from our other achievements, we are so proud to announce that our Co-Captain, Control Systems student Bowen Cassel, was awarded the FIRST Dean’s List Finalist Award. Our Co-Lead Business, Media, and Documentation student, Kayuga De Guzman, was nominated as a Semi-finalist Dean’s List student!

COMPETITION FINALS
As the first seed alliance, Team 359 went into the final matches alongside Team 4613 and Team 244. We pushed through playoff matches developing our strategy by working with our alliance and finally making it to the finals. The Hawaiian Kids faced off against our opponents, winning both rounds, declaring us the Tournament Champions of the 2023 FRC Canadian Pacific Regional!
AWARDS
We are so thankful for this opportunity to share our aloha and participate in the Canadian Pacific Regional alongside some amazing teams. We are extremely proud to announce ourselves as both the Tournament Champions, as well as winner of the Gracious Professionalism Award! We hope to see these teams again soon and can’t wait for our next tournament at Ventura County Regional!
