VRC PEARL CITY HIGH SCHOOL

DECEMBER 2021

On December 4th, 2021, Team 359B and 359C competed in the VRC Pearl City Tournament.

ALLIANCE SELECTION

Both teams began scouting out teams for possible alliances. During the alliance selections, Team 359C invited Team 2459B, Golden Hawks Robotics, to forge an alliance. Later Team 12033P, Manoa Tech 33, invited Team 359B where they graciously accepted their offer.

During the Round of 16, Team 359 and Team 12033P won their match with a score of 86 to 66, qualifying them for the Quarter-Finals. Team 359B and 12033P lost their next match with a score of 135 to 0, eliminating them from the competition. Team 359C and Team 2459B lost their Quarter-Finals match and were eliminated from the competition.  During the tournament, our teams tackled many unexpected obstacles but managed to complete the tournament in 5th and 16th place out of 24 teams. 359B had a record of 3-4-0 (Win-Lose-Tie) and 359C had a record of 4-3-0. Although neither of our teams won the tournament, they tried their best and learned a lot while competing with other teams and observing various robot designs. The tournament gave our new VEX students a chance to experience a new environment and learn what to expect in upcoming tournaments.

INTENSE MATCHES

Teams from all over Hawaii competed in this tournament with a total of 24 teams including our two own teams. During the event our teams set up the pit, inspected and tested the robot, prepared our Engineering Notebook to turn in, and scheduled a judges interview. As the teams prepared for qualification matches, they scouted, talking to other teams and creating game strategies for Matches while gaining a better understanding of their alliances’ robots and autonomous programs. During the qualification matches, Teams 359B and 359C competed in a total of 42 matches.
