VRC WEst OAHU
October 2023
On October 14th, VEX VRC Teams 359B and 3590A competed at Nanakuli High and Intermediate School for the West Oahu VRC Tournament!
Intense matches...
At this year’s Nanakuli High and Intermediate tournament, a total of 24 teams from across the state competed and collaborated for a whole day! It was a day full of energetic matches and diligent teamwork. Human players gripped onto their controllers, synergizing with alliance partners to secure the win! A day filled with thrilling matches! Anticipating our skills rounds, which we earnestly practiced for. Lining up to do skills between qualification matches, we left no idle moment. Our hard work paid off because Team 3590A placed #1 in skills for the state!
Alliance Selection
Both teams made it into alliance selection at this tournament. Team 3590A paired with Team 27301D, and Team 359B paired with Team 3685B. Sadly, in the match of 16, our middle school team got eliminated. In the semifinal match with 359B and 3685B against the 3rd seed Alliance, the human players had to control their robots and challenge themselves to compete at their best. They swiftly shot triballs into the field and scored them into the goals. When the match finalized, both alliances waited anxiously for their hard-earned scores. Team 359B and Team 3685B won by one singular point! Thanks to Masyn’s excellent autonomy, they won the match!
Looking Ahead
Teams 3590A and 359B are so thankful to have the liberty to have competed at the Nanakuli High and Intermediate School Tournament. With every tournament that passes, we are filled with unbridled experiences and friendships. We wholeheartedly thank our amazing mentors, whose guidance carries us through hardships, ups and downs, and disasters. They drive us forward, hoping to bring our team a successive victory. Watch out for our next Pearl City High School tournament on October 21st.
Team Arrival and Preparation
Bright and early, Teams 3590A and 359B arrived at Nanakuli High and Intermediate, buzzing with excitement. Without missing a beat, we sprang into action, setting up and priming our robots for inspection. Luckily, both robots got the green light! Strategy sessions ensued as they huddled, plotting their moves for the upcoming Qualification matches.
Team Collaborations
Throughout the day, We reconnected with old friends and made new connections with fellow competitors. One lasting interaction with another team was with the Mililani Mechs Team. When Team 359B needed a downloading cord, they lent us one. When a member from Team 3590A was having trouble with her camera, Kaelyn patiently helped us out. This positive interaction strengthened our relationship as a team. It helped us understand that being a VEX team is about winning and giving each other a hand when needed.
Tournament Results and Celebrations!
By the end of the exhilarating day, Team 3590A placed 15th place with a record of 3-5-0 (Win-Lose-Tie), and Team 359B placed 4th with scores of 6-2-0. 3590A made it to the round of 16, and 359B powered through and made it to the finals!
