It’s the beginning of week two, and there is still quite a bit of work yet to be done. Students on the construction team got to work, cutting many different lengths of wood to connect the goal together. Before assembling the goal together, they had to make sure that the sizes of the wood were precise. By measuring and cutting, they were able to complete the task, they were even able to get the tower for the playing field done. The programming division was also very busy. They continued to work on the prototype bot, changing the angle of all tires and placed the modem onto the prototype. Students repeatedly used the trial and error method to test to see whether or not the bot is able to go over the bump and kept checking it throughout the day. While some students were occupied with working on the prototype, mentors and other students worked on the kicker. They worked diligently, looking for ways to make it work.. In the room next door to where the programming team, the visual media team worked on filming the second week of construction. They also worked on the week two video. As for the graphics team, they were busy at their computers, working on the pit crew booklet that will be done shortly once they have collected all the information they need. |

The first design that the team developed did not work after they tested the prototype bot. Team 359 deliberated amongst one another and came up with a design that they hope will be successful. When asked, how the progress for the construction team is coming along, Chadwick Ulep, Co-lead of construction replied, “Well, we are in the process of creating a frame for the robot. To be honest, we’re moving pretty slow compared to previous years because it took us a week to figure out what not to do [as in building the robot] it left us behind schedule. Also the field, with its complexity and sheer magnitude of the number of actual pieces compared to one trailer from last year, which really made us busy with construction for the first week since kick-off. But right now, we’re actually making progress on constructing the robot since we came to a conclusion of our robot design.” Today, the construction crew finally started on building the actual robot. They started off constructing the frame, using various machines such as the Mill, Band Saw, and horizontal Band Saw. While they were busy with their task, the programming team worked on the kicker mechanism, testing it to see how far the ball will travel from various distances on the playing field. From unplugging wires and drilling nails into the board, they were busy figuring out the configuration for the new electronics board, which will be used for the robot. In the mean time the video and documentation team were occupied documenting what the other sub-teams were doing throughout the day. Later the media team worked on week two’s video as the web site team updated the site.

It’s the end of week two, and there is still a lot to be accomplished. As the week progressed, the students tried to get as much of the work done as possible. Today, Team 359 successfully completed a great deal of work. The media team completed week two’s video, fixing all the errors to ensure that it ran efficiently. Once the video was edited, they submitted week one’s and week two’s video to the web-site team, who will post it onto the Waialua Robotics site. Throughout the day, the video crew also filmed the daily progress of all the sub-teams. The construction crew worked vigorously. They managed to construct the prototype shooter mechanism, trying to make it more effective, and having the opportunity to test it out. While the students worked on the shooter, the mentors were hard at work rebuilding and modifying the frame for the robot. They were able to get a lot done including adding the wheels to one side of the frame. At the same time, the programming team was also very busy. They were occupied with rearranging the electronics board so that they could add speed controllers. Jonathan Oishi, part of the electronics and programming team, said, “We’ve been working through the electronics for the prototype because we changed our design. We also made some minor progress, trying to figure out where the pneumatics and electronics go on the board for the prototype.” As for the graphics team, they continued to work on the team banner by collecting photos of our team and created the pit crew booklet.
Paying a visit to Team 359 was the team from Mililani High School who needed assistance. They were having some technical difficulties with their computer; therefore, they came to have our programming mentor check out what was wrong with it. They also came to learn more about the programming system for the robot. Once students finished what needed to be done today, they cleaned up their work areas, getting it ready for week three.
