From the 29th of November to the 7th of December, Team 359 Waialua Robotics traveled to Tokyo, Japan to participate in the 2017 International Robotics Forum for High School Students. The team arrived in the 40° weather and checked in at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel. For the first few days of the trip, they visited shopping malls, a Toyota city showcase and even rode one of Japan's largest ferris wheels! Soon, the exhibition was right around the corner. The event was held at the Tokyo Big Sight. This year, the team decided to do their research project on Service Robotics. On the first day, the team separated into groups to talk to different exhibitors to gather more information for the team's research project. Students were able to talk to big companies such as HiBot and Japan Atomic Energy. Then the team met that night to update the presentation for the next day. On the day of presentations, the Team listened to other participating teams that ranged from China, Mexico, Korea and Brazil. After all the presentations, an award ceremony was to follow after and due to the team's hard work and dedication, the team was awarded the Best Study Report Award! After the competition, the team celebrated their last few days by enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine and visiting famous landmarks in Tokyo. Waialua Robotics returned home with an award and happy faces as they enjoyed the warm weather and beautiful island.
