In 2007, robotics was integrated into the Waialua High School curriculum as a set of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) career pathway classes. Enrollment in a class is determined based on each student’s roll on the team. Generally, students on the construction sub-team take an engineering pathway, while students on the documentation sub-team take a communications/arts pathway. However, students who wish to enhance their robotics-related skills in a certain area, such as graphic design, may take a regular school-offered course in the area with the rest of the student body to fulfill their robotics credit.  In addition to high school, robotics is offered as an elective for intermediate students in the Exploratory Wheel program. Intermediate robotics focuses on the principles of and participation in FIRST Lego League, preparing students for future participation in the FIRST Robotics Competition.
