The Hawaiian Kids went to Shanghai, China for the third annual CRC competition. Teams from all over China came to be mentored by 15 international FIRST teams from the United States of America, Israel, Canada, Brazil, and Australia. Every international team was assigned a Chinese team to mentor during the workshop. 359 was paired with 9018, Power, and got to work right away. They helped with everything from the bumpers to the wiring. Four days later, 9018’s robot was completed and able shoot well!

Day one consisted of practicing and making sure all of the rookie teams understood the rules. The Hawaiian Kids unpacked their robot, set up their pit and passed out omiyagi. Then came the second and third day where the competition began. Qualifying matches were longer because of the amount of teams participating. 359 came in third, which made them the highest ranked team from the United States. For the final matches they picked Teams 987 and 9030. They made it to the semifinals and tried their best, but unfortunately didn’t make it. The Hawaiian Kids still stayed to cheer on the other competitors and showed great sportsmanship. Two elimination brackets were played: one for all 56 teams competing, and one for just Chinese teams. The Chinese teams had their own finals matches.Waialua’s students learned about Chinese culture and made many friends along the way. The team visited ancient villages, the historic Yellow Mountains, Terracotta Warriors, the Great Wall and many other beautiful sites. Thank you to China Urban Youth Robotics Alliance (CUYRA) and Dadalele for giving International teams financial support. Team 359 is looking forward to visiting China again for the next China Robotics Competition!
