On August 9, 2011, Jandie Sabo, a fourth year member of Team 359 was awarded the AFCEA Hawaii Student of the Month for August 2011. She, along with her parents and Mr. Lee, attended the AFCEA Luncheon at the Hale Ikena restaurant at Fort Shafter. A short bio was used to introduce Jandie as she received a certificate and a $100 savings bond.

The August Luncheon began with a standard call to order of the AFCEA monthly meeting with the awards presentation that followed. Also recognized was the Senior Government Leader of the Month, Executive of the Month, AFCEAN of the Month and Young AFCEAN of the Month. A guest speaker also spoke at the end of the luncheon.

AFCEA stands for the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association. It is an international organization of academic, civilian, government and military professionals. They all work in the information technology, communications, and engineering fields. The Hawaii Chapter has nearly 700 members and sponsors a number of awards and academic scholarships. They also sponsor the annual TechNet conference and exposition attended by people from around the world which takes place in November at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel.
