It was a really cold, windy, and rainy day as the Hawaiian Kids of the Waialua Robotics Team took part in the “Once a Month Church” event held monthly. It was held at the Haleiwa Beach Park where Team 359 participated in a community service project which was assembled by team member Senior Leia Lendio. Students of Waialua High school were responsible for managing the book distribution booth, where they assisted children in choosing books and coloring their own drawstring back packs while adults rummaged through the many books that were donated by many students and faculty of Waialua High School. It was nearly a six hour event as students stayed to set up until closing time. Each student who volunteered their time received a community service credit. Besides running the book drive booth, student enjoyed the rest of event by taking pictures with Miss Ko’olina, watched hula performances, and ate refreshments and lunch that was served to those who attended the “Once a Month Church” event. Even though the weather was not a good day to be outdoors, in the end, the book drive became a successful event as many people obtained books from the booth. The Hawaiian Kids are very proud to give back to their community! Special thanks to Leia Lendio for putting this entire event together!
