After the grateful and surprising victory at the San Diego Regional our team brought high hopes and positive energy to the Arizona regional.  We were supported by our peers, teachers, parents and mentors to do our best and achieve all that we can.  We knew that the stakes were high, with the 3 awards we were entering, entrepreneurship, chairmen’s, and the regional.  We had the support of our principal, Mrs. Porras-tang, and so with all this support and positive attitudes we eagerly drove from San Diego to Arizona.

On Thursday March 11, 2010 we left our hotel early to wait at the arena until it opened for the optional practice day.  When the officials opened the doors we hurriedly walked into the stands to hold a good view of seats for scouting and video.  The drive team met in the pit and worked on the arm that would allow the robot to climb the tower.  They also perfected our kicker which allows us to score goals.  Our graphics and other members went around the pit to ask teams various questions about their robot.  These questions were used to determine which robots would be most helpful in our alliances.  The documentation team took pictures to record the duration of the day.  The chosen speakers prepared their speeches for the judges where they would talk about our chairman’s binder and present our business plan.  The business plan would be used to hopefully influence the judges to pick us for the Entrepreneurship award.

On Friday March 12, 2010, the scouting team watched and recorded information the robots that performed on the field.  They kept track of the goals that each robot made and the method of scoring they used.  While for the rest of the day, everyone cheered the team on as we competed.  As the day progressed we won each match earning us the number one spot on the board.  We were ahead by 20 points which assured us that we would not get caught up to.  Once the qualification matches were cut for the day due to a time delay, they began the awards ceremony.  All of our members went into the stands and awaited the announcement of the Entrepreneurship award.  Once it was announced that we had won, our team cheered and jumped for joy in the stands.  So with the award for Entrepreneurship and the lead spot we excitedly went back to the hotel.  There, we met with all the scouters and the drive team and made a list of the best 24 teams in our opinion.  We discussed the teams we thought that could carry us through to the finals.  Once the list was finished we went to bed for a good night’s rest.

The next morning March 13, 2010, the team went to the arena ready to win.  The day began with multiple wins and left our team with high hopes to make it to the finals.  The chairman’s committee gave their speeches and presented their binders to the judges.  Then, match by match we won and got ahead.  Once the qualification matches came to an end, we chose our alliance and began the elimination rounds.  We steadily made our way to the quarter finals, making it through to the semi finals, where we successfully made it into the final match.  Once the final matches began everyone in the stands watched anxiously.  In the last match we won and everyone was unbelievably proud of the drive team.  Then later at the awards ceremony they announced that we had won the very prestigious chairman’s award, along with our mentor and teacher Mr. Lee winning teacher of the year.  Earning us a total of 5 awards in this one regional: The Arizona regional, Chairman’s award, Entrepreneurship award, teacher of the year, and coopertition award.
